Hello

Hello.  I am Amaka Mclaughlin. I currently enrolled in the MSW program at IU Indianapolis.  In this project, I would like to investigate the lack of digital resources in rural  and low income areas within the United States.  This is a social work concern; and id access does not increase, It will become a large obstacle in the social work sector.

I grew up in a small rural area in Mississippi.  I remember that there was only one cellular company that received service in the area.  Today, there are on't two cellular companies that service the area, that is AT&T and C-Spire.  In my hometown, Shubuta, Mississippi,  high speed internet services were not available until July of 2020.  They are currently still debating within the local government offices if they want to invest in fiber internet.

People are connected by the Internet, which promotes civic involvement, social relationships, and community engagement. Everyone's ability to express their thoughts, use government services, and keep informed is guaranteed by digital access.  This website is dedicated to assist in researching & finding ways to improve digital access, equity, literacy & citizenship to those in rural areas.
